How it works

Firstly, we’d like to point out that you don’t have to be a hotel guest to hire a Spinway bike, the general public is always welcome.

Renting a bike from one of our stations is very simple. Insert your credit card, select a time period you wish to rent for, agree to the conditions and then select a bike number.

A green light will now be flashing on top of the lock indicating that the bike is ready to be taken. You now have a 30 second window to take the bike, after which the light will go out and the lock will re-engage. Don’t worry, if you weren’t able to get the bike in time, just swipe your card again and the lock will re-open for another 30 seconds.

To withdraw the bike, push forward firmly to release the lock (you’ll hear a loud click) and then pull the bike out of the station.

Returning a bike is simply a matter of pushing the bike into the lock until it engages the lock (with another loud click). Then pull back to ensure the bike is securely attached to the station.

Helmets, locks, maps and lights are all available free of charge with the hire of a Spinway bike. Simply see the concierge or front desk of the hotel and they’ll be happy to supply you. Remember that Australian law requires all bicycle riders to wear a helmet and front and rear lights are required after dark.

Pricing

PricingWe think you’ll find our rates quite reasonable. There are three rental periods for you to choose from, so whether you plan a quick tour of the city, a bit of exercise, a nice relaxed ride around some of our famous attractions, a nice long lunch or whether you simply have no plans at all and want to see where the day takes you, there is something to suit.

When you hire a Spinway bike, your credit card acts as your access pass, allowing you to use a bike for the time period you select. You can therefore return the bike and take it out again as many times as you like within that period at no extra cost. In fact, you don’t even need to take the same bike. Just make sure you use the same credit card (your access card) each time, as this is how we determine who you are and how long your rental period has to run.

If you’re enjoying the freedom of two wheels so much that you find yourself running over your limit, relax, there’s no need to hurry back. Each hour over your rental period is simply charged to your card at $11 an hour (which we might add, is considerably less than the hourly rate of traditional bike hire shops).
