Spring. What a glorious time of year! The cycle of life begins again and our city itself seems to blossom in tune with nature.
Again, Floriade is here to celebrate the end of Winter and to announce the arrival of Spring. It seems this will be the last year that this magnificent display will be concentrated in Commonwealth Park so this year really is your last chance to see it in this form. Future displays may well be spread over different sites around our city which, in my opinion, will lessen the attraction somewhat. Numerous cities around the world have beautiful floral displays scattered around their centres so really, will we have anything extraordinary to promote? Regardless, until proven wrong, I do have faith that the talented team that brings us Floriade each year have grand plans that will most likely surprise and delight us all next year.
Now, springtime and bicycles go together, that’s sort of stating the obvious. Pedal Power (our local cycling organisation) has kindly installed numerous bike racks at the Parkes Way and Regatta Point entrances to Floriade so you can park (your bike) right at the entrance….try that in a car. After Floriade, take advantage of the season and continue around the lake, or off to lunch at Kingston or Manuka, or to the Arboretum, or to the National Museum, or to…….well, you get the idea. Live life!
